Apex Completes Video and Podcasting Projects for Leading Aging Services Trade Association
4/12/08
Apex has completed work on two projects for the Minnesota Health & Housing Alliance (MHHA). St. Paul-based MHHA is a trade association that reaches out to a broad spectrum of aging and senior service professionals by offering them education, training, advocacy, certification and information for hundreds of Minnesota facilities that serve over 40,000 residents daily.
"Apex has been a great partner as we embarked on our journey into the world of Web 2.0 technologies. Apex's knowledge has been a key to our pain free launch of our podcast studio. Bruce's easy going style and patience with technology neophytes made the process smooth and easy to understand," said Jenny Prosser, Director of Meetings & Conference Services for MHHA.
Each February, MHHA holds its largest signature event, the Institute for Older Adult Services. This year's event was on February 6-8, 2008 in Minneapolis. MHHA asked Apex Marketing Group to capture video footage for five out of 90 concurrent sessions. These five sessions were then edited for online viewing as well as saved to DVDs for resale. MHHA provides one session Making Dreams Come True online for free viewing in hopes to encourage people to purchase the other four for a nominal fee. Click here to view Making Dreams Come True.
In addition, Apex Marketing Group was contracted to design and install a new in-house podcast studio at the MHHA offices as well as train internal staff on both the recording and editing requirements for podcasts. MHHA's advocacy and communications departments were also provided with the proper equipment suitable for recording onsite interviews with government officials at the Minnesota State Capitol. Fourteen staff participated in preliminary training and two staff members are now designated as the go-to employees for podcast recording and editing.
Working directly with Prosser, Apex helped plan for the video needs at the February Institute as well as ongoing podcast consulting. "As a trade association, we provide advocacy and educational services to our members and are always looking for ways to make information more accessible to the MHHA membership. Every year we hold our signature Institute event and after it is over we don't have anything to give members that weren't able to attend. We decided that recording some of the popular sessions on DVDs as well as offering them online was a great way to add value to the program and to reach members that were not able to be there," said Prosser.
MHHA continually updates its membership on happenings at the Minnesota State Capitol and its advocacy team spends hundreds of hours meeting with legislators and monitoring the progress of bills that may affect its membership. "With this year's budget cutting efforts at the Capitol, healthcare issues loomed large and the threat to our membership was great. With the use of our podcast studio, we could inform our members almost immediately with breaking news," stated Prosser. "It has become a valuable way to get information to our membership so they can better react to the issues being discussed."
Utilizing inexpensive equipment, the association was able to spend less than $10,000 for these two projects.
